Welcome back to another episode of the Damage Report.

We're in 2019 and to give you an idea of the level of mental stability I'm entering

the New Year in, there's a fly in the studio and I might lose it in the middle of the

show because it keeps flying near my head.

But regardless of flies, we have a new house.

It's an exciting day in US government because the distribution of power between the different

branches has been fundamentally changed.

We no longer have unified Republican control over government and that is extremely consequential.

And so we're going to be starting off the show with a bunch about that.

Some good news, a little bit of bad news as well, but we have a packed show other than

that too.

We have two guests who are going to be joining us.

One is going to be breaking down HR1.

So the big first piece of legislation that the Democrats are planning to put forward,

a massive anti-corruption, new ethics piece of legislation that also has components of

increased voter participation and all of that.

Very important legislation, we're going to be talking about that.

Then later on, Kara Buckley, who's the culture editor for The New York Times is going to be

joining the show for the first time, she previously wrote on a study showing that over the last

few years, movies led by women actually earned more at the box office than movies led by men,

which is certainly not what you think is going on out there based on the decisions that
