Summary
#192: Susie Goodall is a badass. Mia & I met her in Antigua in February after she'd just completed a solo trans-Atlantic crossing in her Rustler 36. At just 26, she is the first woman to enter next year's Gold Globe Race, essentially a reenactment of the famous race that Sir Robin Knox-Johnston won in 1968, establishing nonstop solo ocean racing. Susie was prepping for the return voyage to England when we spoke, which will fulfill the races qualifying passage requirement. Despite her youth, she's an accomplished sailor, having worked as a skipper with Rubicon 3 in the Arctic and has sailed thousands of offshore miles. Follow Susie's adventures at susiegoodall.com.

| 0:00.0 | Hey gang, quick update to our 2017 schedule and greetings from Bermuda by the way where I'm recording this. |
| 0:07.0 | We've decided to add one last trip in 2017. |
| 0:11.0 | We have to take the boat from Stockholm on the east coast to Orest on the west coast. |
| 0:16.0 | It's about 700 miles. It's a delivery trip. I'm going to leave the boat in Vindo Marine, a nice boat |
| 0:21.8 | yard on the west coast, and we're opening that up to crew. So it's a 10 to 14 day trip, |
| 0:26.6 | depending on how much time you have. If you want to stick around and help us haul the boat out |
| 0:30.3 | and put it away in the winter shed for the year, you're welcome to do that. Details are on 59-north.com |
| 0:36.8 | slash offshore. We've got four spaces available for |
| 0:40.0 | this trip as usual. It's going to be a chilly one in September, but it'll be some great sailing, |
| 0:44.5 | some great cruising and a chance to help us put East Bjorn to bed for the winter. Hope you can |
| 0:49.7 | join us. Some people would sort of just kind of, you know it off it's like yeah okay everyone's got a |
| 0:56.7 | stupid big dream like that and and then so other people would take it seriously and they'll be super |
| 1:03.0 | supportive and have loads of ideas and in fact it had quite a few crew members at work |
| 1:07.4 | who just gave me shed loads of ideas we just sit and talk about it for hours and |
| 1:12.8 | hours. And, I mean, at the time, it was like, you know, I'd signed up. I didn't have a boat. I didn't |
| 1:19.0 | have a plan. And it's just come together. In the last year, I mean, I look back and where I was |
| 1:25.4 | last, this time last year. And it's just, I don't know, it's just gone full circle. |
| 1:31.2 | On the Wind is presented by Weems and Plath, makers of fine nautical and weather instruments since 1928. |
| 1:37.4 | Interestingly enough, Susie Goodall, today's guest, is going to be forced to rely on traditional navigation in the upcoming Golden Globe |
| 1:44.7 | Race. The race's rules require that competitors rely only on technology that was available to |
| 1:50.6 | the racers in 1968. Of course, they'll have emergency SATCOMs on board, but they must remain in a sealed |
| 1:58.0 | container unless absolutely needed, at which point they'd be |
