I'm Elvis Mitchell.

I am thrilled to be talking to my guest, who is not only an actor and a stand-up comedian,

she's also an author. And in the opening of her book, she quotes Sidney Poitier, quoting Plato,

which endeared her to me forever. My guest is Susie Espin. We know her as Susie from Caribbean

enthusiasm, which has finally ended after a mere 24 years of being on HBO.

I do think of Susie on the show as being, I think, a real portrayal.

I think people think of views being a stand-up.

I think of views being a trained actor, and that feels like a real

role assumption to me. Yeah, you know,

you're right. People think I'm her, which I'm

not. Could you imagine being her?

Spending your life? First of all,

dressing like her and acting like her?

One of the beauties of doing this show is that as performers, as

actors, we get to have so much creative input on everything we say, as you know, it's all

improvised, and creating the characters. In the 24 years I've been doing the show, Larry and I have

never had a conversation about who this character is and what our
