It was 1983. On the evening of August 30th, 20-year-old Susan Eads was wrapping up her waitishing shift at Charlie's bar in Nassau Bay, near the Houston Space Center and NASA headquarters outside Houston, Texas.

Then she went to the Prickley Pear, a bar inside the Holiday Inn in nearby Webster, where Susan

also worked. She was scheduled for the late night shift there. She and some of her co-workers

and their boss all left before 1 a.m. and went across the street to Jason's Brown Saloon to blow

off some steam. Very late that night,

Susan and her friends left Jason's and got into one of her friend's cars. They drove Susan to her

own car, which was parked close to two miles away. Susan got into her vehicle and her friends drove off.

Susan didn't return to Seabrook that night to the room she shared with her

sister Debbie at their mom's house. It wasn't completely unheard of for her to stay out overnight at

her boyfriend Bobby's house, so not much was thought of this at the time. In fact, Susan had spent

the night before August 29th out at a friend's house and gone straight to work on the 30th.

There were no cell phones back then, so it was not uncommon for people to be out of pocket for

hours, even days at a time. The next day, Wednesday, August 31st, an employee arriving at work

at the yacht club at the intersection of busy NASA Road One and
