I think it's important to recognize that you can't have 100% security and also then have 100% privacy and zero inconvenience.

After leaks about widespread surveillance, President Obama tells Americans not to worry.

And I'm Bob Garfield. But national security reporters are stunned by both the extent of the leaks

and the programs they exposed. We're put in the position when we don't know what's being

done with the information to sort of just trust that the government's using it appropriately.

And unfortunately, history tells us that's not always a wise assumption.

And in Turkey, the repression of the media has its roots in the government's ruthless dismantling

of an equally ruthless shadow state.

It is absolutely extraordinary.

That's what makes it so hard.

The truth is so fantastic that you can't dismiss it as a conspiracy theory.
