0:00.0	Andy grew up in Berlin and you were surrounded by socialists.
0:08.7	So can you talk about your, can you talk about your experience of, you know, what you,
0:16.7	you're basically surrounded by socialists and Right. Communists, socialists.
0:22.6	So I grew up in Berlin, in West Berlin.
0:27.9	Berlin was divided.
0:29.3	I was born in 69.
0:31.9	And between 69 and 89, Berlin was a divided city surrounded by a Germany considered to be East Germany,
0:40.3	which was under the communist rule.
0:45.3	We had, growing up during my childhood, I had the McDonald's, the Burger King, the Coca-Cola's,
0:52.3	all of that was standard. We grew up with that
0:55.3	because we were the westernized city within, as I say, the Eastern Germany part and Western
1:03.9	Germany was surrounding the Eastern part, right? So growing up like that, I did not pay attention to because I didn't know any better.
1:12.9	But as you grow up and become older and you're going through your school system and your sessions,
1:17.7	you become aware of what your history was, why we were living like that.
1:22.5	What was the reason there's an East and there's a West Berlin and what's surrounding there?
1:26.7	So you became more aware of it and became a better understanding what was a disturbing part of it
1:36.4	while you were wanting to travel through Germany to West Germany at that time,
1:42.4	particular. You had to go through East Germany.
1:46.2	And East Germany was taken time on once you pass the border from West Berlin to Eastern Germany,
1:53.7	you had to have your passport.
1:55.0	The passport was put on a rolling band, which was going up to the next section, which was the, what do you call it, the guards,
2:04.6	or the people who checked your passports to go into the Western German part.
