Well, good afternoon, everybody. Welcome to the Dean's List. Thank you for joining me yet again,

yet again for another, another day. And you know what? I'm feeling another history class.

I mean, we're in summer school. This is,

this is officially my second day of summer. And it's also our second history class here. I mean,

why not? Why not go to summer school history style and history class style? Today is really a special history class.

We're going to celebrate a very special lady.

And she's a lady that we don't hear a lot about.

We hear a lot about her husband.

Her husband, indeed, was the father of the country, the general, the president, the commander-in-chief, George Washington.

His wife, Martha, today is Martha's birthday.

June 2nd is the birthday of Martha, Washington, born in 1731, to John and Francis Dandridge. And I just think we need to celebrate her.

Because she is a lady of character. Our first first lady, she set the standard. She set the bar high. She set precedent. And so we're going to

history class today, First Lady style, in honor of Martha Dandridge, Washington. As I said,

she's the daughter of John and Francis Dandridge. She grew up about 35 miles outside of Williamsburg,

which was indeed Virginia's colonial capital. As a young girl, she was active. She wrote horses.

She, of course, practiced her social skills, as all young ladies did.

She learned to read and write. She grew into a strong-willed, bright, charming, and attractive

young woman. She also had a penchant for reading the Bible every single day. She made it a part of her life. She made it a part of

her practice. And it showed. Others saw it. They discovered quickly that she took it to heart.

She took the words of the Bible to heart.

At 18 years old, a young 18 years old, Martha met an older gentleman, 20 years her older, actually.

He'd have been 38.
