Despite the fallout between President Donald Trump and Elon Musk, it’s important to note that while Musk was in charge of the efforts at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), the initiative isn’t dependent on whether Musk is part of it. Trump was first inaugurated into the White House, well, he issued an executive order. You can see

it up on your screen. It was executive order 14158. And that order, quote, established the Department of Government Efficiency, Doge,

with the goal of modernizing federal technology and software to maximize governmental efficiency

and productivity. The executive order requires agency heads to establish Doge teams within their agencies and to ensure Doge has full and prompt access to all unclassified agency records, software systems, and IT systems in a manner consistent with applicable law.

In practice, the way that Doge operates is similar to the way an audit firm operates inside of corporate America.

They go into federal agencies. They go through the systems, the contracts, the records,

and anything else on file, and they're looking for things like discrepancies, inefficiencies,

waste, fraud, abuse, things like that. Then they take all their findings and they give them to the head of that
