Summary

The right-wing Supreme Court gave the go-ahead for Trump to carry out the mass firings of hundreds of thousands of federal workers. More than 200,000 have already been fired or forced out as Trump carries out the Project 2025 plan to radically re-shape the form of government in the United States. The violent ICE assault against immigrant families is part of that plan.

Brian Becker and Professor Richard Wolff discuss what happens to the economy when those cuts hit and the layoffs continue. They also discuss why the ruling class is freaking out about NYC mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani’s proposal to tax the rich by just 2% more and make buses free and provide affordable housing for New Yorkers.

1:30.0	planned by Project 2025, Russell Vought, who was the architect of Project 2025, now the director
1:37.0	of the OMB, the Office of Management of Budget. But of course, it's got the signature of Donald Trump.
1:43.1	It's his White House. The anticipation now is that mass firings will accelerate. There have already been about 250,000 people who have either taken early retirement. They've resigned or they have been fired because of Doge, the so-called Department and Government
2:03.5	Efficiency. Anyway, you know, I just want to frame this for people. Donald Trump is not the first
2:10.3	person, the first president who's tried to limit the size of the federal workforce.
2:15.5	When Bill Clinton came into office in January 1993, they set about
2:21.6	to reduce the federal workforce, and they did over the eight years by about 450,000 people.
2:29.1	But it was done as a bipartisan effort. It was done slowly. It was done incrementally. Yes, the unions sued to try to
2:37.2	stop that. They didn't succeed. But shrinking the federal workforce is not a novelty.
2:42.8	What's different is that this is carried out as sort of a blitzkrieg attack by these ideologues,
2:49.8	the Project 2025 people, and Trump, who is now their vessel,
2:54.4	and they consider the federal government to be taken over by communists.
