Summary

The world of Geroge R.R. Martin's Song of Ice and Fire series is strongly influenced by our own medieval period, and this goes for its queens as well. Today we compare the likes of Cersei Lannister and Margaery Tyrell to the queens of medieval England - see how they stack up.

Hello and welcome to the Queens of England podcast.

0:14.2

Supplemental, Queens of Ice and Fire, the Consorts of Game of Thrones.

0:36.9

So, wait, what? I told you last time that I was going to be giving you part two of Elizabeth of York.

0:42.9

What gives? Well, funny story. Shortly after posting the last episode, I was told about a family emergency that required me to fly off to America for a week. I got back to the UK on Monday,

0:47.3

only to discover I'd left my beloved trusty laptop in Boston Logan Airport.

0:51.8

Doubt! Luckily, my ever-want-fellow other half was able to arrange its retrieval from the airport, but I won't

0:57.3

be able to get it back till mid-November, so I'm stuck with my old machine, a computer that I

1:01.3

ran into the ground after five grueling years of use, and is now about as powerful as, to quote,

1:06.5

Blackadder, and a somatic ant with some heavy shopping. As you might imagine, that rather put pay

1:11.5

to my ability to put out a new well-researched episode worthy of the Queens of England podcast,

1:16.0

especially for such an important queen as Elizabeth of York. Also, you might notice that the sound

1:20.2

quality in this episode is not quite as good as my last one. It's because I had all my old

1:24.7

settings on the other laptop, so I had to kind of MacGyver it back.

1:28.5

I promise we'll be back to normal quality as soon as I can, but until then, you're stuck with

1:33.8

this. With regard to the content, you're now getting, instead of Elizabeth of York, a little

1:38.5

supplemental on a topic that is very dear to my heart. The last few supplementals that I've done

1:43.3

have been on Royal Mistresses. One as a supplemental to this show, another two as guest episodes on other podcasts.

1:49.3

And before that, I did one on a fictional queen and another on a warrior queen who would be king.

1:54.7

Today, I will be talking about a little of all of these things, as I discussed the consort of

1:59.4

the world of George R. Mart's A Song of Ice and Fire

2:02.0

series, though you probably all know it from the HBO TV series Game of Thrones. Now, I know that many

2:07.5

of you have not read the books or seen the TV series. To you, I first say, please go do that. They're
