Hi, this is Imran Ahmed, founder and CEO of the Business of Fashion.

0:07.4

This week I have a very special conversation to share of a wonderful, inspiring young woman named

0:13.0

Adut Acage.

0:14.6

Adud was born during a journey to the Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya.

0:18.7

Having spent her earliest days as a refugee, Adute and her family

0:22.2

eventually emigrated to Adelaide, Australia, where she enrolled as a student. But Adud always dreamed

0:27.8

of being model. And fast forward to 2016, she was cast as a global exclusive for Anthony Vaccarello's

Adute has since featured in campaigns for Chanel, Mosquino, and Valentino, and in December,

she was on the cover of both British and Australian Vogue.

0:48.9

At the BOF 500 Gala in New York this past September, I had the pleasure of sitting with Adut and hearing her

1:24.6

I think of Twiggy or Virushka or Linda Vangelista or Linda Evangelista or Kate Moss,

1:31.7

where the model defines the moment so perfectly that she becomes something more. I think this is

1:38.6

Adut's moment for sure. But it's so interesting to be with her

1:46.3

and to be participating in a talk that she has called,

1:53.6

I will always be a refugee.

1:56.3

And obviously that is an irresistible point to start our talk. So, Adud, why will you always be a refugee?

2:05.2

Okay, well, could I first start off by saying good afternoon, everyone?
