When I think about Black History Month, I think about people who are doing it now, leading the way.

I think about the modern athlete, because I am an athlete.

I think about LeBron James, Colin Kaepernick, Maya Moore, Kenny Stills,

Anquan Bolden. I think about the Malcolm Jenkins of the world that's walking the halls of

Congress to make things better for all people. I think that the modern athlete is redefining

what it means to be athlete. The modern athlete is saying, look, we don't have to sit in a box anymore

and just play ball.

We don't have to shut up and dribble.

The modern athlete is leading

the second wave of the civil rights movement.

I love Black History Month

because it gives us the opportunity

to highlight people who are doing it now

and also pay homage to the people who paved

the way before us.
