As the Senior Director of Communications at Third Way, Kate oversees the organization's communications strategy. She guides a team of talented professionals to distill Third Way's research, analyses, and insights in simple and sticky ways for Washington policymakers, advocacy leaders, and members of the press. Kate has been featured in The Hill, Huffington Post, the Washington Examiner, and podcasts like Majority 54 and Beyond Politics.
Prior to joining Third Way in 2015, Kate spent almost six years on Capitol Hill with former Congressman Luis V. Gutiérrez. As a lead negotiator in the House of Representatives on a bipartisan immigration bill, Congressman Gutiérrez and seven other members attempted to find common ground on one of the most politically divisive issues of the day. Kate built the Congressman’s social media presence from 40,000 followers to over 380,000 followers as they educated constituents and members of the public about negotiations in Washington and the rollout of the DACA program. During her tenure, the Congressman became the number one Facebook profile in the U.S. House of Representatives, a major feat for a member who was not a committee chairman or a part of leadership. She was particularly proud of the day he surpassed the Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi in followers. Kate began her career in the Minnesota State Senate, where she worked to pass the first legislation in the nation to ban BPA in baby bottles.
When she’s out of the office, Kate loves playing volleyball, volunteering with her church, escaping to enjoy time at the lake, and exploring local parks with her husband and son.
