Summary

The time has come for us to board the Icarus II (awful name for a spaceship) and stare directly into the sun. First mentioned as a movie that rules way back when we were only a podcast about the Star Wars Prequels, Griffin and David finally get to cover Danny Boyle’s 2007 Science Fiction flop SUNSHINE. We’re getting into everything - the iconic score, the brilliantly restrictive use of colors, the hot scientist named Brian Cox (not Logan Roy) who served as a model for Cillian Murphy’s character, and the film’s very controversial third act. Staring into the sun? Bad idea. Taking the time to re-appraise this forgotten gem? A GREAT ONE.

0:43.9

I think so too. I had forgotten the accent.

0:45.9

Yeah.

0:46.9

Because this was when I saw this movie, Mark Strung was not a guy on my radar yet.

0:50.9

No, he was not an old radar.

0:52.9

No, in the times I rewatched it, I was like, oh, Mark Strung, that guy is starting to pop up.

0:56.9

I will talk about all of this. I don't think I'd seen this movie in a decade.

1:01.9

What?

1:02.9

It has been 15 years since this movie came out.

1:04.9

It's fucked up.

1:05.9

I probably watched it five or six times within those first five years.

1:09.9

And then just hadn't seen it in a decade.

1:11.9

Yeah.

1:12.9

And obviously Mark Strung became like omnipresent for a couple of years.

1:16.9

He became a real renta villain.

1:18.9

Yes.

1:19.9

Not, I don't say that negatively. The man does good work.

1:21.9

He's a good actor, but he played a lot of villains very quickly.
