I'm sure you know the old adage about sunlight being the best disinfectant.

Let the sun shine in.

That's what journalists often stand for, wanting to shine a light on government behavior,

sometimes, government wrongdoing.

But it sometimes can be very hard to let the light in.

Very hard to pry information from secretive governments and other institutions.

So how can members of the media find new ways to make sure sunlight really is the best disinfectant

and make sure there's more of it all around?

Those are some of the questions for this week's Reliable Sources podcast.

It's an annual initiative sponsored by the News Leaders Association to promote open

government and access to public information.

I think Sunshine Week is really important every year.

It's important to market and try to spread the word about how that government should

be made more accessible and transparent and what freedom of information laws can do

to provide public access to information.

So let's talk about this with Sunshine Week coming up, beginning this year on March 14th,

going through March 20th, we want to tell you how you can get involved.
