Summary

Sunn O))) is a drone metal band comprised of two guitarists, Stephen O’Malley and Greg Anderson. They’ve been making music together for over 25 years and just released their 10th studio album. The duo joined us to talk about the self-titled record and how they started making music together. They also chatted with us about what goes into putting on a Sunn O))) show, the gear they bring on the road with them, and much more.

You've got to work in the morning at 9.

1:28.2

And you've been waiting for the headliner for a few hours, passing the time, chatting with your friends, politely clapping for the

openers. Then the lights go down. Fog fills the stage. And in between the bursts of vapor,

1:40.2

you can just make out what's up there. Amps. Lit from behind by cold white light. That's it.

1:48.0

Just amps. Literally dozens of amps, each stack taller than your head. And then two figures

emerge from the haze. Each of them is carrying a guitar. Each of them is wearing a black robe and cowl. They plug in,

turn on all those amps, and play a chord. Just one chord in unison.

And it is loud, not just loud like concert loud, louder than anything you have ever heard in your life.
