Summary

God sent revival to Nineveh, yet the Prophet Jonah was bitter. Similarly, if God chose to start saving a bunch of hillbillies in flyover country, Russell Moore and David French would probably be among the first to complain.

0:00.0	Amen. So for those of you who are joining us for the first time right now, we're in between books of the Bible.
0:08.3	The plan is, Lord willing to begin a series through the book of Ezra. We have completed a series through the book of Joshua.
0:14.7	And during this interim period of time, we're taking assortment of various texts. Each Lord's day having a primary text of
0:22.6	scripture, but focusing on the grace of God and focusing on the gospel that we're saved by grace
0:28.7	through faith in Christ alone. We're finished our series through Joshua focusing on what it looks
0:36.3	like to conquer the land as the people of God. Ezra will focus on what it looks like to conquer the land as the people of
0:38.6	God. Ezra will focus on what it looks like to rebuild the ruins of a land that had been conquered
0:45.5	previously by God's people but because of faithlessness to the covenant a land that God's people
0:51.8	had eventually been rejected from because of their failure.
0:56.3	And so those are the focuses with Joshua and Ezra.
0:59.8	But in the meantime, in between, we're focusing again primarily on the gospel of grace.
1:05.1	Our text for today is going to be Jonah chapter 1.
1:08.3	If you would, please join me now in standing for the reading of God's word.
1:12.8	I'll read the text for us in its entirety. When I finish reading the text, I'm going to say,
1:17.5	this is the word of the Lord, at which point I would appreciate very much if you would
1:22.2	respond by saying thanks be to God. One final time, our text for this morning is Jonah chapter
1:30.1	1. The Bible says this. Now the word of the Lord came to Jonah, the son of Amatai, saying, arise, go to
1:37.6	Nineveh, that great city, and call out against it, for their evil has come up before me. But Jonah rose to flee to Tarsius from the
1:46.9	presence of the Lord. He went down to Joppa and found a ship going to Tarsus. So he paid the fare
1:53.7	and went down into it to go with them to Tarsus, away from the presence of the Lord. But the Lord
2:00.1	hurled a great wind upon the sea, and there was a mighty
