It's just you and I kind of cozying up with a cup of something, leaning in, having some intimate conversation about a topic.

What it is and what it isn't.

What it is not is demanding, dictating that God do what we expect him to.

He's not bound by our dictates,

and he's too good of a father to let us get

away with that. You know, when you think about the phrase spoiled children, it's like if you spoil

food, you ruin food. If you spoil a child, you ruin them. God's too good of a father to give

into our selfish whims, and most of what we ask for is not good for us anyway. Or maybe it's good for us, but it's not good for us yet. So many of the answers that we feel so sure we're ready for, our character is not ready to steward. So the Lord brings it to us little at a time. I often say, he makes us wait because he's making us ready. If you've listened to my show or read any of my books,

you've heard me say this a thousand times and I'll probably say it a thousand more. But I have a friend,

a mentor friend about 20 years ago who said something to me that just rocked me and I'll never

forget it. I just think if one of you missed it, it's worth repeating. She said, Susie, you've got to know the difference between expectations and expectancy.

Expectations, she said, are premeditated disappointment.

It's when you and I create a bullseye.

And we determine that God is good only if he does this.

And we create timelines, you know, and boundaries on

God has to come through for me in this way. It might sound something like, you know, that my

prodigal will come home by Christmas or my marriage will be restored by Valentine's Day or our bills

will get paid finally by this date. Now, it's good to set goals, but I'm just saying when we preempt outcomes
