This is it, folks, the last week of summer and the last week of our summer listens series.

Some backstory.

Back in 1996, when I was NPR's media reporter and Bob was a reporter on contract with all things considered, we were friends.

Anyway, one day we were both feeling restless and we decided to write a sitcom called Pledge This, said at an NPR affiliate, kind of like the Mary Tyler Moore Show or WKRP in Cincinnati.

It was our very first collaboration.

But we never got it funded.

The CPB panel of program managers that approved grants famously detested it.

So it gathered dust until on the media came along and after waiting a couple of years just to be safe, we produced it for radio.

Even got some actual actors, Janine Garofalo, Fred Willard, and Tony Shaloobe.

Just remember, being nearly 20 years old, this is now a period piece set in a pre-internet entirely analog era.
