This is our Summer Club Book Show.

This summer, Deb and I decided to read a book together again and then discuss it with all of you.

It's Shirley McLean's 36 year old book out on a limb.

But before we dive into the book, we wanted to tell you a little bit about Shirley McLean

and orient you to the year she wrote this book.

She was born in 1934 at Baptist Parents.

Her dad was a realtor and a psychology professor.

Her mom was a drama teacher and a stayed-home mom.

Her brother is Warren Beatty.

She went to New York City immediately after graduating high school and found quick success on Broadway and in commercials.

She's probably best known for winning the Oscar for Terms of Endearment,

which debuted the same year as this book we're discussing today.

She was also in postcards from the edge,

Till Magnolia's guarding tests and most recently on Downton Abbey.

McLean wrote out on a limb in 1983.

And I just want you guys to think about that.

This is the same year that Chris Hemsworth, Carrie Underwood, Jonah Hill

and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un were born.

This was also the year Nintendo introduced the Mario Brothers and Fraggle Rock debut on TV.
