This could be the start of a horror movie.

The wind is rattling a corrugated mechran gate on the right and behind me.

White horses crashing in.

We're on the east coast of England in Suffolk in a village called

Dunwich and a massive expanse of reeds being blown in the wind. And I apologise in advance

for sounding a bit bunged up. I have got the most horrible cold, which is probably why I'm thinking

dark thoughts at the beginning of a walk, which I never normally do. And the reason that I've

come here is to meet Jeff Nicholson,

author of 16 novels and five non-fiction books,

including The Lost Art of Walking,

because Jeff, walking is absolutely central to who you are.

It seems that way, doesn't it?

I think I wasn't all that sure about it until I wrote the book.

And I knew I'd always been a walker and I'd always been interested in walking.

Why did you choose to walk here in Dunnage today?

Well, essentially because I used to live in this area. We're on the coast here.

I used to have a little cottage in a place called Yoxford,

which is about 10 miles inland from here.
