Hey there, Sprouts. Today is Thursday, September 13th, 2018. It is also the feast day of the triumph of the cross.

This week on the Catholic Sprouts podcast, we have been talking about suffering. First, we attempted to answer the question,

why do bad things happen? And although we don't have all the answers to this question,

we do know that God can use all of our moments of suffering for His greater glory.

Next, we talked about what we should do when we are in a moment of suffering,

and that we should always turn to God and to other people and refuse to turn in on ourselves.

Yesterday, on the feast day of St. John Christendom, we talked about what the early church can show us

about having joy amid suffering and how we

actually aren't made for this world, well made for the next world. Today on the triumph of the cross,

we are going to take a lesson from our greatest teacher on suffering, Jesus Christ.

Now when I was a little girl, a long time ago, people used to wear bracelets

that said WWJD. Do you know what that stands for? It stands for what would Jesus do.

Now, we were encouraged to wear these bracelets, and each time we came to a moment where

we had to make a tough decision, we were to look down in this bracelet and think, what would Jesus do?

And based on our decision, our knowledge of Jesus is loving, we would follow his example and choose

as he would have chosen. Well, let me tell you,

one of the most profound things that Christ did while he was here on earth was suffer. He

suffered in the garden during the agony in the garden. He suffered when they scourged and whipped him

in a brutal, brutal way too. He suffered when they scourged and whipped him in a brutal, brutal way too.

He suffered when they placed the crown of thorns on his head, and he was pierced.

He suffered when he was forced to carry the cross through the streets of Jerusalem,
