My talk now is suffering and joy, which may seem like a very strange combination, but I

am convinced that it is entirely possible to have joy in a visit of suffering.

I have certainly experienced that many times in my own life, and we hope that we will

learn some things about that now.

Now just by way of introduction, again I will repeat my definition of suffering, having

what you don't want, or wanting what you don't have.

If you have cancer, of course you don't want it, and if your husband has died, you have

something that you wish you had.

And a little girl wrote me a letter, and she told me that she was ticked off.

She was an eight-year-old child, and she was ticked off because her parents had hired

a babysitter for her and her younger siblings, and she being eight years old felt that she

was fully capable of taking care of the younger children.

And she was ticked off because her parents had hired another girl.

And so she said she was also forbidden to watch videos during that time.

So she was very angry throughout the first half of that evening, but then she said, I found

joy in reading a story to my little brother, and I thought that's a perfect illustration
