Summary

Sue dives into the WNBA preseason with a close look at the rookies’ first WNBA games. What are Raven Johnson, Flau’jae Johnson, Olivia Miles, Lauren Betts and others bringing to their new teams? WNBA vets Natasha Cloud and Tina Charles are still unsigned. Could they both be victims of the hard salary cap? Or is Tash being black-balled for her outspoken activism? And Sue talks to Maria Sharapova about her new podcast, Pretty Tough, adapting to a new identity post-retirement, and her newfound friendship with former tennis rival, Serena Wiliams. Hey everybody, welcome back to the show. As you can see, it is time for my solo episode. I'm super happy to be here. So excited for what we've gotten story here. Before I get into it, I just want to say all the love and support that you have shown me and Megan over the last two weeks has meant everything. Just want to genuinely, genuinely, thank you. I think we really

0:24.6

felt it. It really meant a lot. So we really appreciate it. But yeah, so now it's just me. I'm actually

0:30.6

in Seattle. You can probably tell from the background. I feel like you guys know our backgrounds now.

0:34.8

I just got back a little less than a week ago from Berlin. I was in Berlin for

0:40.9

the Feeba Hall of Fame. They did such a wonderful job. For me personally, the Feeba Hall of Fame,

0:48.3

it really represents like my international career, which was really cool to celebrate, not just playing for the USA team,

0:55.9

of course, playing for the USA team, but also playing overseas. I played overseas in EuroLeague

1:00.0

for three different teams for 10 years. So it was fun to celebrate that. I'm now officially done

1:06.1

with speeches, as far as I know. I'm tapped out. I think this one went well. I got a little Russian in there,

1:13.1

so I was super proud about that. But yeah, it was great. And I just want to give a quick shout

1:17.5

out to the other members of the class, especially Celine Dumark and Clarice, Manitjuana,

1:22.4

two players that, Celine especially, I competed against time and time again, so many great memories on the court,

1:30.4

off the court. And of course, there were some guys that went into, especially Dirk Novitsky.

1:35.4

We were in Berlin, so I'm actually going to give a shout to Dirk because like all the autograph

1:40.9

seekers, he just took all their attention. So we didn't get bothered as much. So thanks, Derek. But again, congratulations to everybody. What they also did in Berlin at this time

1:49.4

was the draw for the 26 Women's World Cup. That's in Berlin, in September. Quick reminder that

1:55.8

the WMBA will be taking a break. So like loosely August 30th, 31st to like loosely September 14th, 15th.

2:03.8

And that's when we're going to compete in the World Cup.

2:07.1

Obviously, I'm the managing director of USA basketball, so excited about that.

2:11.5

Something that I don't think a lot of people know is usually, this is actually the first time we're taking a break for the World Cup.

2:17.9

I think everybody's used to us taking breaks for the Olympics.

2:21.9

But this is the first break the WMBA is taken for the World Cup.
