Louise, did you always know that you wanted to have children?

Not at all. When we got married, it's not even something that we had discussed.

We were just young and happy-go-looking and I felt pregnant. It was accident.

It was 20 years ago when Louise Barrett and her husband Jim found out they were having Ellis, their first baby.

The birth was really straightforward. My waters went at midnight. We went to the hospital probably about 4am.

I'd elected for a water birth, so it was all very gentle and nice.

Can you remember the moment you first met Ellis?

It was quite strange because he was born and the cord was around his neck.

They cut the cord and then they took him straight away.

I didn't get to see him or hold him for at least the first five or ten minutes.

Then they brought him back. It was just amazing.

He was this pink little thing and he was looking at me.

That amazing love that you get for a child, the minute they're born, it was an absolutely incredible feeling to think, wow!

They've just made this baby. It's really a great feeling.

What was Ellis' like?

He was actually two weeks early, so he was quite small. He was only £6.2 when he was born.

He was very small compared to the other babies that were on the ward.
