The killing in Sudan is a stain on the entire international community.

So says the United Nations.

What will it take to finally stop it?

Leverage.

I'm Carolyn Beeler today with the latest from Sudan.

Also today, in Chile, the perception of rising crime rates among voters doesn't square with

reality.

The level of fear in the citizenry has much more to do with social interactions, the role

of the media, but it's not really a result of a very

sharp increase in crime. And deaf athletes from around the world are heading to Tokyo to compete.

Many don't get much support from their governments back home. So I always feel it a little bit of

a pit to swallow. That's all ahead on the world.

The top human rights official at the United Nations is making an urgent call for action in Western Sudan.

Here's Volker Turk speaking in Geneva earlier today about what's been

happening in the Sudanese city of El Fasher. The atrocities that are unfolding in Al-Fashir
