Welcome to Manager Tools. Today's show, Succession Planning, something that most managers think happens at the top of their

organization and if they think of succession planning at all, which they often don't, or if they even know that it's done at their firm right so we have a different thought

wouldn't we agree that it's fair to say that at many firms it doesn't happen right it's

unfortunately yes there's just responding.

But we know that it happens at all levels at those firms who are really well managed.

And even if your firm doesn't do it at all, you can apply the basic principles of succession planning to your role if you're a manager to make yourself and your team more effective.

You don't have to have a corporate process in order to do some

Right. And it's not this big complicated thing about, okay, what happens if I get hit by a truck or something like that?

What if you go out sick for a couple days, right? Or you go on vacation and someone has to answer the mail or be on conference calls or do any of a

done to make those people ready?

Right? And actually some people would say, well, that's not a sufficient planning question.

That's a question of vacation coverage.

Well, vacation coverage is part of succession planning.

If you want to have somebody ready to take your position, then they have to know how to do your position.
