Matthew 24. We've been talking about our blessed hope in the Lord,

the position of watchful waiting in the last days.

Today we're going to talk about the last generation

as part of a study of prophecy.

That phrase, the last generation, is very important.

We see it in Jesus' Olivet discourse, Matthew 24, 32, now learn a parable of the fig tree.

When his branch is yet tender and put forth leaves, you know the summer is nigh.

So likewise, ye, when you shall see all these things, know that it is near. In the Greek text,

he is near, even at the doors. Verily, I say unto you,

this generation shall not pass till all these things be fulfilled. Heaven and earth shall pass away,

but my words shall not pass away. And we've talked about this generation very often. This generation is, in fact,

the last generation of Israel, which will lead to the second coming of Christ. And he goes on

to talk about that. In his Olivet discourse, he mentions the Great Tribulation. He mentions the last generation.

He gives the illustration of the days of Noah, the flood coming and taking away the people

in judgment. All of the language of the Olivet discourse is toward Israel concerning the final

reconciliation of all things. And therefore, this generation has been called the last generation.

Luke also, as we noted last week, records this same idea.

He says, behold the fig tree and all the trees.

Last week we talked about the fig tree, Israel,

and all the trees representing all the other nations.
