Looking at Hebrews, Hebrews is not written to us as Christians, which may sound kind of funny,

but it's actually to the Hebrews.

That's what it says.

It's a very serious appeal to the Hebrew mentality to understand what Christ has done.

As Christians today, and as Bible-believing Christians, we understand the gospel of grace,

we understand the indwelling work of the Holy Spirit, we understand that God has a particular

plan, that he's doing something in the era in which we live that is different from anything he ever

did in past eras. And Hebrews is a book written to the Hebrews about the superiority of Christ over the Old Testament prophets.

And that's the way it opens in Chapter 1. And then it goes on to talk about the superiority

of Christ over the angels, angelic ministry. And then it goes on to say that

Christ is superior to Moses. In an introductory set of remarks, it talks about why Christ is superior

to Moses, his person, his commission through the erotic priesthood.

And then as you go on, and this is where we're going to go today, starting in about chapter four,

we're going to begin to talk about the superiority of Christ's priesthood.

Now, we know this, that is to say any of us who've studied the Bible understand all of

this.

But it's really, I think, educational, let's put it this way, it's a blessing for us to listen

in on this private conversation between the writer to Hebrews and the leaders of the Hebrew
