Peter is writing something here that is deeply metaphysical to use that word,

meaning that it transcends ordinary reality.

It goes so deep that it's difficult to grasp even.

And that's the concept of the rock, which is Christ.

The rock, which is Christ, literally is a biblical event. That is to say,

it's cover to cover in the Bible. There's practically no place you can look and not see the rock

as a symbol of Christ. And I want to start in Matthew. It turn to Matthew 1618, and we'll look at a very

familiar portion of scripture to start out with today. This sets the groundwork for our study

because what happens in Matthew 1618 is more than just a conversation. It's more than a historical event. It is literally

where time and space meet this dimension. Now, Jesus had been preaching. In Matthew chapter 7,

verse 24, he's talking to the people. And he says, therefore, whosoever heareth these sayings of mine and

doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock. So Jesus in his

preaching says, listen to what I'm saying. It's just like building your house on a rock. Matthew 725.

The rain descends. The floods come, the winds blow,

and beat upon the house, it falls not, for it's founded on the rock. This is a huge, huge idea.

It sounds relatively simple at first, but the more you look into it, as we shall, the more you'll see that it's

incredibly complex. Matthew 1613, when Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked

his disciples saying, whom do man say that I, the son of man, am? And they said, well, some say
