The Epistles of Peter began with the idea that there are a number of things hard to be understood

in the epistles. And the more you study the Bible, the more you will discover that there are

things in the Bible that you didn't think were there. There are things in the Bible that you

might have thought were there and aren't. There are things in the Bible

that may directly contradict and challenge your personal thoughts. There are things in the Bible

that may make you take a second look at yourself. Well, that's the whole idea. And if you put it

all together, it's a challenge to study the word.

And for that reason, I think above all other reasons, people tend to drift away from an in-depth study of the Bible.

It's just easier not to study it in depth.

On the other hand, the rewards for studying in depth are incredible.

And I'm going to read the fifth chapter now.

And as I read this, 1 Peter chapter 5, think back about that conversation.

Go back in your mind to John chapter 21 when Jesus and the disciples sat by the side of Sea of Galilee

and he fixed breakfast for them, and then he fixed his

gaze on Peter, and he said, do you love me? And Peter says, well, you know I love you, and he says,

feed my sheep. Well, think about that as we read this. The elders, which are among you, I exhort, who am also an elder and a witness of the

sufferings of Christ, also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed.

Feed the flock of God, which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint,
