Every Christian is called to go into the world and make disciples. But how do we actually do this?
Today, Fr. Mike tells us that before we can live out the mission of the Church, one thing is needed: a personal relationship with Jesus and his Church. Without this relationship, our missionary efforts simply become another well-meaning chore or good deed. Our relationship with Christ gives our works meaning and purpose. It is vital, then, that our missionary identity be rooted in a personal relationship with Jesus and his Church.

0:05.1 | of reducing, reusing, recycling. I keep saying that. I don't know why. But we are reusing. And this |
0:10.4 | is a video from the 99. A couple weeks ago we had another video from the 99 about young adults in |
0:15.0 | the church. But we need to focus on this. Remember the 99 comes from that parable that Jesus said, |
0:21.7 | here is the shepherd who leaves the 99 in order to find the one. That's the mission of Jesus. |
0:28.3 | It's also the mission of the church. So in this video I just invite you to just hear what is |
0:33.8 | what is the mission of the church? What why does the church exist in the first place? It might |
0:39.7 | surprise you or it might just simply remind you of something that you already knew but might have |

1:03.6 | automatically jump to the idea of the mission trip, right? Where you get away and you just do good |
1:08.8 | for about a week, maybe a weekend. But then you come home. And so then the idea of mission |

1:19.1 | a time when you went away once and did some good and then you went back home to your normal life. |
1:24.0 | And then we hear that mission is the very heart of the church and think, what in the world does that |
1:31.9 | mean? In fact, Pope Paul VI in a document back in the 60s called evangelization in the modern |
1:38.2 | world, he said that mission is the very heart of the church. It's her very identity. That in |
1:43.6 | fact, he went on to say that if the church isn't on mission, she fails to be the church. |
1:49.6 | So it has to mean more than just going on a mission trip and it absolutely has to mean more than |
1:55.0 | just doing good deeds, just helping people out. That the mission of the church actually ultimately |
2:01.4 | is threefold. There's a threefold mission of the church. The first is on the Proclamation of |
