Isaiah, chapter 36, verse 4.

Say to Hezekiah, thus says the great king, the king of Assyria,

on what do you rest this trust of yours?

Oh, man, I love this verse. Here's the scene. Get the context.

This leader from the Assyrians is taunting the people of Israel and saying as a representative

of the king of Assyria, who's threatening to totally destroy Jerusalem

at this point, to totally destroy God's people. And he's basically talking trash. And he says,

Thus says the great king, the king of Assyria, on what do you, and listen to the language, rest this trust of yours?

Basically, he's saying, who are you trusting in?

And he goes on to talk trash about God, saying, are you going to trust in God?

The king of Assyria throws down gods all over the place, and he's going to do the same with your God.

So on what are you resting your trust?

And you read the rest of the story and it is sobering, it's humbling, it's awesome,

it is basically God showing that the king of Assyria is simply in the palm of his hand,

that God holds the king of Assyria and the entire Assyrian army

filled with hundreds of thousands of people. He holds them in the palm of his hand. And it is right

and good for Hezekiah and the people of God to rest their trust on God.

And God shows that for all who trust in Him,

he will always, always, always show he's worthy of their trust.

That you can rest your trust.
