Today's tip is to follow up right away when you meet somebody.

In a few days, the moment may have passed.

Nobody likes cold calling.

So strike while the iron is hot.

While many things are still in flux with the pandemic, it does seem like this fall there

may finally be in-person conferences, seminars, and networking events.

Even if these are small or have various restrictions, you will have opportunities to reconnect with

people in your field, and you haven't seen in a while.

You'll have opportunities to grow your network as well.

I don't have to tell you that building an active professional network is important.

But if you are building new networking habits after some time away from in-person events,

here's a good one.

Make sure to follow up right away.

If you run into your old boss, and he suggests getting together for lunch, don't say sure

or that sounds great, let's do it sometime.

Get a date on the calendar.

Maybe you attend a talk by a leader in your field whom you've followed for a while.

Introduce yourself after the talk if that's doable, and then follow up that afternoon
