A 49-year-old Janet Acosta had parked in the peaceful Japanese gardens in Miami,

reading her book and just taking a moment to breathe before heading back to her job at the Miami Herald.

It was April 25th of 2000, a Tuesday. Normal, quiet, and otherwise

unforgettable, really. That is, until a man approached her car. He looked disheveled and a bit

unkempt, and then he asked her for a cigarette. That man was Michael Tansy,

an individual who could have become a prolific serial killer if he hadn't been stopped.
