In January of 1726, a ship from the Dutch East India Company landed on a small volcanic island in the

Atlantic Ocean made a strange discovery.

The desolate island was for sure completely uninhabited at the time, but there were eerie

signs that someone had been there before.

They soon found a disheveled tent and a few items around a campsite, but there were no trace

of who they belonged to.

Among these same belongings, they then discovered a diary that documented an incredibly

strange and harrowy story.

This included crime on the high seas and survival by some nameless castaway author.

Entries included a desperate search for drinking water and the drinking of turtle blood

and urine.

The sailors eventually returned to England with the diary and handed it over to the author,

Daniel Defoe, who most famously wrote the castaway novel, Robinson Crusoe.

Daniel then translated the diary from its original Dutch to English, and the store was published in 1726.

It was then republished in 1728 and again 173030, and each time it was re-released it included

more salacious and condemning details against the unnamed castaway.
