The Secret Service and we want to thank you.

They were among the few who were with former President Donald Trump much of January 6th,

and Congressional investigators, among others, want their text messages.

But there's a problem.

The U.S. Secret Service says they were erased when agents got new phones.

Chairman Benny Thompson, Vice Chair Liz Cheney of the January 6th Committee,

right, quote,

the Secret Service has begun producing records.

We have concerns about a system migration that we have been told resulted in the erasure

of Secret Service cell phone data.

They say erasing agents' phones after four congressional committees asked for these records

could be a violation of the Federal Records Act.

What is going on there?

Is it just sort of thing that happens in bureaucracies and big government where they had a scheduled

demigration of the data where they're going to get erased and didn't matter that one

of the biggest things in U.S. history happened to the department.

They just went ahead and erased the data because it was scheduled.

Well, and the thing I forgot when we were discussing this yesterday was that a couple

of committees had made a formal request for that data.

Now is it possible that in a big dumb bureaucracy, the person in charge of the tech upgrade didn't

communicate or more accurately, the person who got the subpoenas or the requests didn't

communicate it to the tech people because they had no idea what each other were doing?
