Good evening once again. I'm Stephanie Rule and we are now 126 days away from the election.

And tonight we are already seeing the consequences of the Supreme Court's landmark ruling on presidential

immunity. Donald Trump's sentencing for his criminal convictions in the

New York case has now been officially delayed. I know you know this. It was supposed to be next week just a few

days before the Republican National Convention where Trump will be officially nominated.

Now, the earliest it could happen is September 18th, which of course is less than two months

before election day.

Trump's lawyers asked Judge Juan Mershahn for the delay so they could review how the Supreme

Court decision affects this

particular case. They want the judge to set the conviction aside. Here's what's

interesting. Prosecutors didn't oppose the delay but they said Trump's argument is not going to

hold up. Judge Mershahn signed off on the delay and said he'd issue a ruling on

the question of immunity on September 6th. It is unclear exactly how the Supreme Court decision could

affect this particular case and many experts say that is precisely the problem.

The justices implemented a new sliding scale of immunity that must be

decided on a point by point basis where each individual decision can be argued

over and appealed. And that likely means plenty more delays.
