Summary

In Part 2 of this episode, we’re sharing two more stories about the powerful love that has sustained us throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. As always, find transcripts and photos from these stories on our website.

First, we’ll hear from journalist and Story Collider senior producer Misha Gajewski. In her story, Misha takes her father to his chemo appointment early in the pandemic, and reckons with their shifting roles.

And then, the final story of this Stories of COVID-19 series, from infectious disease researcher Youssef Saklawi! When Youssef’s research team launches a COVID-19 study, he becomes immersed in his work — and begins to feel attached to the patients he sees only through glass.

0:56.0	If you missed part one, we shared a story from Melanie Hamlet about an unexpected pandemic wedding, as well as an interview with psychologist Joanne DeVilla about how relationships
1:01.2	are faring during lockdown. And now we have two more stories on the theme of love for you.
1:07.2	And in these stories, we won't be looking at romantic love, but rather platonic love, the love of a daughter for her father and the love of a COVID researcher for his subjects.
1:18.0	Our first story is from Misha Gieski, who's a freelance journalist and senior producer for Story Collider.
1:24.1	It was recorded in her home in Toronto.
1:38.8	So it's a sunny day in June, and my dad calls me from my driveway to say he's ready to go.
1:48.7	And I walk out of my house and I see him on my driveway and he's wearing his most stylish blue jeans and a freshly ironed orange dress shirt and I think, God, only my dad would get dressed up for chemo. So for the last
1:57.8	year or so, my dad has been driving into downtown Toronto for his chemo and radiation treatments
2:05.2	because he was diagnosed with stage three colorectal cancer.
2:09.2	And the doctors are putting him through these treatments to hopefully stop the cancer from going further,
