He was not born in the land of Islam.

He was not an Arab.

He never saw the prophet peace and blessings be upon him until he was already a grown man.

But when he finally did, he knew in his heart that this was the truth he had been searching

for all his life.

This is the story of Salman al-Farisi, one of the most remarkable companions of the Prophet

Muhammad, Peace and Blessings Be Upon him.

Born in Persia in a town called Isfahan, Salman was raised in a wealthy Zoroastrian household.

His father loved him deeply, so much so that he kept him locked away in the temple to protect him

and raise him to become a fire-worshipping priest. But deep inside, Salman was restless.

One day on the road he heard Christian monks praying. He was drawn to them not by wealth, not by force, but by something in their hearts.

The light of the oneness of Allah.

He told his father, their religion is better than ours.

His father chained his feet to stop him.

But you cannot chain a heart that seeks the truth.

Salman escaped.

And from that day forward, he would spend decades of his life

wandering from land to land, country to country,

learning from righteous Christian scholars

only to be told by each one, there is no more good left in this religion
