What's going on, epic gardeners? And today I'm talking to you if you're a brown thumb.

I hear this all the time because as I've started to become known as the plant guy among my circle of friends,

I get a lot of questions from acquaintances and friends. They say like,

oh, I can't, I just can't keep anything alive. Ugh, I kill everything. And to that I say,

well, in my head I sort of say, what are you talking about?

It's not that hard.

But then I think, okay, I need to talk to them in a way that I would want to be talked

to when I first started gardening.

And, well, here's how I think about it.

If you have a brown thumb or you think you have a brown thumb I would highly suggest that

you just throw that idea completely out of your mind. It's kind of like saying I'm bad at math or I'm just not creative.

Well none of those things are really true. You could be better at math if you worked at it and you can be more creative.

Everyone actually is incredibly creative if they just sort of allow themselves to be.

And that is a topic for another time.

But as a student of improv comedy, I've learned a lot about how creativity is often just letting

your fears go and doing what's obvious.

And when it comes to having a green thumb or a brown thumb I would suggest that you just sort of throw that idea completely out the window and just say okay I'm killing plants now I don't want to kill them in the future.

What do I have to change to make that a reality?

Well, like any other problem, there are causes, right? And a plant is a living thing. So living things need certain things to continue living and especially to continue living well.

For example a human can live on Twinkies doesn't mean a human should live on Twinkies, correct?

Well, a plant is very similar. Of course you can't feed it Twinkies, but you can definitely

starve it of oxygen or you can starve it of water. So make a list. What does a plant need to survive?
