You, me, we all seem to like to star in our own lives and be the topic of the day.

I'm going to talk to you about Barbara Oakley. She's a distinguished professor of engineering

at Oakland University and creator and co-instructor of a course called Speak Freely and Think Critically.

Now, I'm going to tie this to the assassination of Charlie Kirk on the campus of Utah Valley

University. We all know this is a human tragedy. We have to think about it there

first because Charlie was a father of two young children. He was a husband to his wife Erica. And that's

the tragedy. Those people have to deal with this. And after the headlines are over, after we move on to another story, they're

going to be left with a terrible, terrible void.

But this is also a cultural tragedy.

And I want to tell you what I mean by that.

In our society, we're suffering from a failure to teach the value of hearing other voices, the value of critical thinking.

And this is starting years and years before this tragedy took place. Because this is something that needs to be

taught K through 12. This is something that needs to be going on in our schools. You have heard me speak

about the intellectual rot that is going on in our elite universities in America. I talked about that when we had

our students out demonstrating, celebrating Hamas that had just massacred so many Israelis that more

Jews were killed in one day than had happened since the Holocaust.

We don't have critical thinking being taught in our schools.

And this is not just a psychological educational problem.

This is something that is actually changing the structure of our brains.
