Summary

Why you should stop trying to escape the hard things in your marriage. Marriage is hard. We all go through trials and tribulations. In fact, the Bible promises us that we will encounter hard things in life. Jennifer and I were notoriously great at escaping the issues in our marriage in the beginning. We managed to find every excuse to avoid dealing with our sexual issues and our hearts towards God and each other. God finally got a hold of our stubborn hearts and showed us the beauty and healing that can come from facing our trials head-on. In This episode of Marriage After God we discuss how we managed to escape our problems and how we changed and found healing. -- FOR MORE ENCOURAGEMENT https://marriageaftergod.com https://instagram.com/marriageaftergod SHOP MARRIAGE RESOURCES https://shop.unveiledwife.com FOR WIVES https://unveiledwife.com https://facebook.com/unveiledwife FOR HUSBANDS https://husbandrevolution.com https://facebook.com/HusbandRevolution

Hey we're an engineer Smith with Marriage After God helping you cultivate an

0:04.0

extraordinary marriage. And today we're gonna discuss why you should stop

0:06.9

escaping the hard things in marriage.

0:17.0

So today we're gonna be talking about escapism or escaping the hard stuff in

0:21.3

marriage and I thought that the topic would be really good. We actually

0:25.4

mentioned it in the Unveiled wife book that I wrote about our marriage and it's

0:29.4

mentioned in chapter 19. So if you're familiar with that book, if you have that

0:32.5

book go back and refer to that chapter. I think it'd be really encouraging to

0:36.2

read again. Otherwise if you haven't got the unveiled wife yet, this is a

0:40.2

shameless plug to encourage you to go and check that out. It's a book about our

0:43.8

story. So we've talked about it. We've done an episode about it a while ago but it

0:48.4

goes on a depth about a lot of the stuff we went through in our marriage, the

0:51.0

missionary travels, the hardships, how God got a whole of our hearts. But today we

0:55.5

just wanted to discuss one of the topics in the book. It's something that we we

1:00.6

got professional at is escapism. Escaping the hard things that we're going

1:05.1

through in our marriage, not confronting them, not dealing with them, just

1:08.6

avoiding them. And we're gonna talk about why not to do that. So I wanted to

1:12.9

start by just giving a definition of what escapism is and it is the tendency to

1:18.2

seek distraction and relief from unpleasant realities, especially by seeking

1:22.8

entertainment or engaging in fantasy. Yeah. Some other things to add to that is

1:27.1

doing things to avoid it like traveling or always being busy or hobby. So those

1:34.2

kinds of things all fall into the category of what we use in our life to
