I'm Catherine Sullivan for the Wall Street Journal.

US stocks finished mixed today following a volatile session with wide swings.

The tech-heavy NASDAQ reversed steep early losses to close a tenth of a percent higher,

while the Dow finished down 0.7%.

The S&P 500 was down less than a tenth of a percent.

Investors weighed lofty technology valuations

and the possibility of the Federal Reserve slowing interest rate cuts. Elsewhere, oil futures

rallied after a Ukrainian drone strike on a Russian port, and Bitcoin slipped. Among individual companies,

shares of Sedara therapeutics more than doubled after Merck agreed to

acquire the biotechnology company in a $9.2 billion deal.

Warner Brothers Discovery stock rallied 4% on news that Paramount, Comcast, and Netflix are preparing

bids for the entertainment conglomerate.

Shares of athletic apparel retailer

underarmor fell 3% after announcing its expanding its restructuring plan and parting ways

with basketball star Stefan Curry's brand. And Bristol-Myers Squibb shares lost 4% after the pharmaceutical
