My name is Jason Carty, and we're live on tape from Dublin and Belfast. When John Lennon and

Yoko Ono put out sometime in New York City back in 1972, there was a second half to the album, which was a

live explosion of material recorded between the years of 1969 and 1971.

And we are here in a bonus capacity to our sometime in New York City episodes to discuss this bonus material.

Is it really an intrinsic part of the album or is it an extra part of the album or why is it there?

Does the album not stand on its own two feet?

It first came out on CD in 1987 in a lovely big double fat boy, fat box CD case,

and then the 2005 CD dropped the live material altogether,

and instead put on Happy Christmas Wars Over and listen, The Snow is Falling.

And then the 2010 CD went back to being a double CD with the live album as well.

Why isn't it a standalone release?

Or, you know, it doesn't, it wasn't like, oh, here's, maybe the Fillmore stuff is kind

of New Yorkie, but it's not

1972. It's not even contemporaneous with an album whose whole point is being contemporaneous

with what's going on. Get it out there. I suppose they'd put out live piece in Toronto,

so they kind of had a noisy live record out already. Maybe they thought they couldn't do another standalone. At the same time,

though, sometime in New York City, it is its own kind of concept album. It steps out of the concept

to put the live stuff there a bit. What I would say is, you know, the Zappa stuff is New York.

That's, that's, that's, that's, that, so that fits in.

The UNICEF benefit, there is a little bit of kind of protesty element to what's happening on that side.

So I suppose to that extent, perhaps it fits in with the general protest vibe of the main island.
