Now we shift from the state of the national economy

to a vital element of New York's economy, the state budget.

That spending plan is now a full 12 days late.

Lawmakers blew past the April 1st budget deadline once again this year, with ongoing fights over housing,

Medicaid spending, and a lot more. So what is the effect of these protracted negotiations?

Like the latest fashion trends. Are we also making a return to the 1990s when it comes to budget fights?

Back then they stretched deep into the summer months.

Or does this late budget not really matter

as long as the final deal is a good one?
