Summary

In the inaugural “Still Christian” episode (more to come!), Dan talks with two of his favorite songwriters, personal friends Tyson Motsenbocker and John Van Deusen, who in addition to their own solo recording careers also play in Telephone Friends together. Dan explains the genesis of this new episode type, and all three talk about the reasons they consider themselves Christian, what the word “Christian” means to them, and the role their faith plays in their lives. In fact, the genesis of the idea for these “Still Christian” episodes came during a conversation Dan had with John at Tyson’s wedding reception, a story which Dan shares. former Christians and non-religious folks, anyone who finds themselves asking difficult questions

about God, science, prayer, fate, suffering, evangelism, and more. So many of us have been given bad answers to those good questions, often by people with

pure intentions.

I want to say that you have permission to take both Christianity and the modern world very

0:50.5

seriously.

0:51.7

And I hope to facilitate that by introducing you to people seeking God across

0:56.5

the Christian spectrum, engaging hard questions in a multitude of ways. Thanks for listening.

Welcome, everybody, to you have permission. I am here with two of my close personal friends,

1:14.4

Tyson-Motsenbacher and John Van Dusen. This is the inaugural episode of something I would like to do

1:21.5

a bunch more of. It's kind of, you could think of it as the flip side to the I don't believe in that

1:26.7

God episodes.

1:28.4

And they are called still Christian, or as I might refer to them colloquially, still crish.

1:34.9

And the idea is to talk with people who are remain Christian.

1:41.0

They identify as Christian, despite the fact that these are people, especially if they

1:46.2

are in broadly speaking, my circles, many, many of their friends no longer identify as such.

1:53.1

And I'm curious why. I want to set the whole thing up here by telling a little story,

1:59.0

which was the idea for this whole min-series. So it's really

2:02.8

great to have the two of you here. We were at Tyson's wedding. It was not your wedding, right?
