Hi, this is Lawrence Krause and welcome to the Origins Podcast.

0:12.0

This episode is with my friend, the remarkable scientist, writer, all-around good guy, Stephen Pinker.

0:21.6

Stephen is a brilliant scientist and a really brilliant writer.

0:27.6

I learned something from him every time I read anything he's written, and I've enjoyed our friendship.

0:35.6

And what's nice is, in this case, familiarity has not read contempt, quite the opposite.

0:41.7

The more I get to know, Steven, the more impressed I am with him and the luckier I feel

0:46.8

to know him.

0:48.2

1:33.3

really a study of a lot of interesting aspects of, of, um, of logic and reason, uh,

1:41.3

including I was very proud and pleased to see that Steven spent a long time talking

1:45.7

about Bayesian analysis, which is something the average person doesn't talk about much,

1:50.7

but which is really at the heart of modern science.

1:53.8

And really that kind of thinking often leads to results which are quite unexpected and

2:00.1

demonstrates in some sense how our kind

2:02.9

of evolutionary training is not necessarily the best training to be completely rational.

2:08.1

In any case, we talk about all of this in the podcast and I found it fascinating and I hope you

2:14.2

do too. Once again, if you're watching this on YouTube, I hope you'll subscribe to our YouTube channel.
