Well, where to start?

I suppose we are living through another experience, which I find shocking to go through.

But apparently, we are all to receive a lecture from the chief architects of MAGA about what may and may not be said, joked about and spoken aloud, lest it offend the presidential ego. And after this latest shooting attempt, it's us who oppose all of this indecency,

who have to watch what we say and that the actions of a deranged gunman

are all of a sudden some type of collective action,

some type of collective guilt that falls on all of us.

Every time I see it, I have a bad reaction to it.

How does it hit you?

Well, Steve, I approach it in this way.

We know that on the 10 steps to authoritarianism, there are many that have become,

you know, shockingly familiar.

It's the expansion of executive authority.

It's the diminution of legislative and judicial power.

It's the demonizing of communities that are marginalized and dispossessed.

It's the attack that we see on the truth. But one is the normalization of state violence. And that

normalization happens in part because you have a coarsening of the conversation about all other types of violence.

And you make the state seem like the only entity that should take action.
