Scott is one of the most famous ultra-runners in the world. You probably heard of him if you've read the book Born to Run.

He's an author himself. He's a record setter. I had the chance to meet him while I was in Seattle for the Spartan Trail series up there and I hope you enjoy our chat.

How far ahead in your life do you plan? Do you and your wife plan a year out, two years out, three months out, you just kind of see what hits you?

At this stage of my life, I'm trying to find the things that are intriguing and right

now you know it's hard I've got two new kids too so.

Yeah I've got two little kids.

How old in my life?

I've got a one-year-old and almost three-year-old.

So life is crazy right now.

And it's like one of those things where you kind of take things

as they come in some ways whereas the the former athlete

and myself is saying like okay you plan things out regularly you try to figure

things out and right now I'm kind of in that phase of my career where I still have these desires to do tough things and challenge myself and I have to find things that are motivating.

So right now I'm in that phase of like get done with something like the Appalachian Trail and then find something different that

peaks my curiosity that wants me to visit those dark deep places that as we all know whether you're doing a Spartan race or you're doing

Trail Ultra or you're doing a multi-day challenge like the Appalachian Trail you've got to be willing to go to those dark

places and that doesn't like again I need recovery and it's been a few years

since I've done one of those on that scale because it takes such an immense

amount out of me and it's in terms of that mental capacity.

Do you think in terms of like, well, I'm a certain age, I can just be the great masters at anything?
